Why Sam remains my favourite son.

The day was going well until I made my first big mistake. I was sitting down with Sam over a cup of tea and asked him if he read my blog posts in the Paper Plane.

"Yes," he nodded.

"Great," I said. "What topic would you like to read one on?"
Yep, I walked into that one.

"Well, I don't think you write enough about how awesome your son is," he replied without missing a beat.

As I reflected on Sam's cheekiness, obviously from his father, it got me thinking about our lives lived as being a signpost to Jesus. If someone wrote a book about your daily choices, what would it say? How faithfully would it direct people to Him? How closely would it line up with the "bios" of Jesus we call the Gospels?

Paul spoke directly to this in 2 Corinthians 3:2–3, writing, "You yourselves are our letter... written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God."

For many people around us, our lives are the only version of Jesus they will ever read about. Do our daily interactions reflect the ethics, radical love and Christian morality that Jesus portrayed?

When our private values match our public actions, our life story becomes a clear signpost pointing directly to Christ. It’s a calling we fail at often though, but thankfully grace allows the Spirit to keep writing better chapters in us and through us.

I enjoyed my reflections on this. For that, and for many reasons, far too numerous to list here, Sam remains my favourite, if not only, son.
