Stupendous Stories

his story
18 December 2025

I love stories. Data is helpful, but it’s just evidence that ‘something’ has happened. Only stories tell us the richness and nuance of what has happened.

No one reaches where they are in life without there being a myriad of things influencing the journey. It’s often not until you look back that you can see how miraculous our individual lives have been. For me, the stories of people who walk with Jesus are a rich source of evidence, information, and inspiration about how God relates with us.

Recently, I had a conversation with someone who has reached a major birthday milestone. As they talked about getting their new phone with emails set up, I remarked about the incredible period of history they have lived through and asked some questions– I was treated to wonderful stories of a rich life, by someone who knew the faithfulness of God, and was still determined to be a missional servant of Jesus. I came away freshly inspired and motivated. Their story gave more meaning to mine! But I also realised I had ‘known’ that person for years without them.

These stories are hard to get from fleeting interactions on a Sunday. They are hard to get when you are wrapped up in your own stories and concerns. We think we know people, but have we heard their stories?

It requires an intentional interaction, with genuine questions and interest. It requires time.

As you approach that day when God physically entered the human story to restore humanity back to its place in HIS big story, what stories are motivating you? Ask someone to tell you their story these holidays. And in their story may you learn more about our amazing saviour and be reminded of your important place in God’s big story.
