Holy Week

holy week
28 March 2024

Starting with Palm Sunday, Holy Week journeys with Jesus towards the cross, towards where He became the sacrificial lamb taking the sin of the world upon Himself. It doesn’t stop there though, it continues as Jesus, now our great high priest rose again. Ascending into heaven He took the blood of the lamb, His own blood, into the ‘God realm’ so that all things in the cosmos could be reconciled to God: Father, Son and Spirit.

Through the blood shed on the cross all things are now able to be at peace with God. Where we ourselves were once enemies of God now we can be friends with God.  Whatever form our rebelliousness and sin has taken - pride, arrogance, resource hoarding, failure to care, false testimony, (insert your sin here) - by way of the cross we are able to be even more than friends, we can call Him Abba, Father.

As I reflect on my own personal brokenness and need for Him, my own personal failings, in contrast my hope in Him can only grow. My salvation only possible because God entered human history and tore open the barrier between earth and heaven. What joy, what surprise, what curiosity abounds as I pray in thankfulness for His submission to the cross. That an instrument of death and torture should become for a vehicle of salvation through which He has reconciled us to Himself. And I pray in love’s fealty, that He would continue to transform me and use me as an agent of reconciliation in this world until His return.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:19-20)
