I have never fancied myself as a synchronised swimmer, but the amount of effort going into keeping everything 'afloat' this past week has seemed phenomenal. And for many people I have spoken to, that has been their feeling also, so much effort required just to stay in the same place let alone have forward momentum.
If you have watched synchronized swimming though, you will have noticed it works best as a team sport, so if you are feeling like you are just treading water this week - I hope that you can join with me in remembering that we are not left in the water alone! The writer of Hebrews tells us that our hope is like ‘an anchor to our souls’ and as Adam wrote last week in the paper plane Christ remains the 'master of the storm' calling those out who want to dance on the waves with Him!
In other news, as part of recognising Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week), I spent some time reading and thinking about some whatataukī (Māori proverbs). This one stood out to me, especially as the leadership team were making plans for our Sunday services:
He waka eke noa
A canoe which we are all in with no exception
That is what we are aiming for, being able to gather everyone in – in some form, whether on Zoom or on-site because we know that it will be less if we aren’t all in!
