A week can be a long time when you’re the only one not convinced. The others had seen Jesus. Something had shifted in them– there was joy, courage and a quiet certainty. Thomas watched it all unfold, still holding his questions. Not with cynicism, just a cautious “hmm”.
Then Jesus steps into that very space.
He doesn’t shame Thomas or shut him down. He doesn’t demand blind belief. Instead, He meets him: “Put your finger here… reach out your hand.” In other words: your questions matter, and I’m not afraid of them. Here are my answers.
That moment still speaks. Doubt isn’t the opposite of faith. Often, it’s the doorway to a deeper, more grounded trust. Jesus’ response invites honesty and gives us courage to lean into our questions.
At the same time, we’re called forward. Peter urges us to be ready to give a reason for the hope we carry. Not with defensiveness or superiority, but with gentleness and respect. That posture matters as much as the answer itself. Listening well. Responding thoughtfully. Being present, not just prepared.
So how do we grow into that kind of faith? A faith that can hold questions and still speak hope? It takes intention. It takes community. It takes stepping into spaces where we can explore, ask, and learn together.
If that resonates, come and join us Tuesday at 7pm at PBC as we work through the Confident Christianity course. It’s a space for honest questions, thoughtful answers, and growing a faith that engages both heart and mind.
