ANZAC day, the day we pause and remember the sacrifice of those who were killed in active service, those who made it home and those currently serving servicemen and women.
As we do this it can make the current conflicts in the world come into sharp focus. As we come together at dawn services tomorrow may we remember also those living in those conflict zones and join in prayer….
Loving God, have mercy on and provide comfort for those who are grieving the sudden loss of their loved ones. Might there be provision for those who’s houses have been destroyed, who’s jobs have gone and have no way of finding income.
Holy Spirit open the right channels that aid would go to those places of greatest need, that those hungry would be fed, that those in need of medicines would receive them. Comfort the children who cry in ways only Your Spirit can.
Jesus, in the storm you got up, rebuked the winds and they calmed down. I pray that Your voice calling for peace and calm would be heard over the voices calling out in rage for revenge.
Raise up your people, those who would be voices of diplomacy and reason in these places that indeed we might live out the words you once spoke on earth:
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy..
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God
