Dan's Discoveries

Here's a bit of my story that you may not know: I love science! Did you know that I even have a BSc (bachelor of science, majoring in chemistry and maths) to prove it? I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for me, there's something special in this field. It encourages critical thinking. It gives us the opportunity to problem solve. It allows us to better understand the incredible intentionality in our created world.

When I first started my degree in 2017, I had my heart set on becoming a teacher. Along the way, a few opportunities popped up and God directed my gaze to youth ministry. So this took the spotlight and the dream to teach took a back seat. When I graduated in 2019, I started working alongside young people full-time. And what a joy this has been! I've absolutely loved seeing where God is at work in the lives of our rangatahi.

Recently, the dream of teaching has resurfaced strongly. I've been wrestling and discerning and I feel God's nudge to step into a new season as a teacher. There are mixed emotions; I'm excited – this has been a dream of mine! But alongside this is sadness, because this means I'll be stepping down from the youth pastor role at the end of the year.

I'm not going anywhere just yet – we still have one more term to go with Y@P and I'm excited to finish the year well. And in the mixed bag of excitement and sadness, I hold onto Jesus and his words as my firm foundation, as he leads me into the next season.

Soli Deo Gloria – Glory to God alone.

Dan
